XpatAthens

XpatAthens is delighted to invite you to a very special literary evening with critically acclaimed author, screenwriter, and self-described “global citizen,” Timothy Jay Smith.

Join us on Monday May 25th, 2026 at 19:00 at Booking Hill in Kallithea for an intimate reading and discussion with a writer whose life experiences are as compelling as the stories he tells.

More than just a novelist, Timothy Jay Smith is also a sociologist, activist, and lifelong Philhellene whose connection to Greece began in the 1970s while living on a then-undiscovered Santorini. His award-winning works — including the acclaimed Fire on the Island — combine gripping suspense with deeply human stories that explore themes such as the refugee crisis, human trafficking, political conflict, and resilience.

Reading a Timothy Jay Smith novel means experiencing stories shaped by real-world encounters, cultural insight, and what he calls “emotional truth”, perspectives gathered through a life lived across continents and communities.

We could not imagine a more fitting setting for this special evening than Booking Hill, one of Athens’ most charming literary spaces. Housed in a beautiful classical residence transformed into a warm and inviting book café, it offers the perfect atmosphere for thoughtful conversation and storytelling.

Whether you choose to enjoy a glass of wine, a rich coffee, or a light bite from the menu, the evening promises to be as inspiring as it is relaxing.

To explore and purchase Timothy Jay Smith’s books, visit his official page HERE!
For readers in Greece, Fire on the Island is also available through Politeia Online Bookstore.
