A Celtic Storytelling - Pot Of Gold

Following the highly successful series of performances of the 1st Panhellenic Fairytale Festival (2017),  the "Pot of Gold" team sets off for a limited number of appearances in the hospitable scene of Art Space (Xoros Texnis)"14th Day", narrating musical legends and legends of Celtic tradition.

Starting from the excellent collection of Celtic Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs (1854-1916), the "Pot of Gold" group delivers with honest respect, but in a free and creative spirit with the form of musical narrations, the magical world of Celts, where lyricism meets power and romance!

In a dreamlike environment of innovative lines and musical compositions, multidimensional orchestrations, melodic interpretations and kinesiological excitements, the Pot of Gold team approaches with the sensitivity of a "seanchaidh" the inwardness and richness of this tradition which was lost in in the depths of the ages and attempts to make reality one with the imaginary element  and coexistence of absolutely natural expressions of Celts idioms.

Performances:
Sunday 13/5/18
Sunday 20/5/18
Sunday 27/5/18
Sunday 3/6/18

Athens Military Music Festival

Against the backdrop of Zappeion, one of Athens’ most glorious neo-classical buildings, the Athens Military Music Festival brings two days of military orchestras, musicians, soloists and dancers from different corners of the globe.

For the first time in Athens, this musical parade combines military music, classical, pop and rock with spectacular lighting and choreography, along with dazzling costumes and fireworks.

Military music has appeared since ancient times, in all armies around the world. Their compositions affect human psychology, aimed at enhancing the morale and enthusiasm of its citizens and soldiers. With orchestras, choruses and dance ensembles, it combines absolute precision, rhythm and synchronicity with an expansive repertoire of both military and traditional songs, classical compositions as well as world music.

Joan and Paddy Leigh Fermor were united in a pact of liberty – sharing their lives, mostly in Greece, as lovers and friends. As photographer and writer, they were also artists of equal stature.

Joan was a restless rebel when she took brilliant images of the London Blitz as a symbol of all that she would be leaving behind. She met Paddy in Cairo in 1944 and soon he was following her to Athens. They travelled all over Greece before settling in the Peloponnese – in the beautiful house they built at Kardamyli and bequeathed to the Benaki Museum.

Between the 1940s and 1960s Joan took thousands of photographs of people and places as she travelled with Paddy round Greece. A few appeared in his books Mani and Roumeli; most remained unseen on her death in 2003. Her archive is held at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh.

In a new book and exhibition, Ian Collins and Olivia Stewart pay tribute to an elusive figure whose art is a revelation.

S/S Apoikia By Vangelis Artemis

At the Cheapart artist-run gallery space, the latest work of Vangelis Artemis is a series of wooden sculptures and also drawings which visually render the precariousness of the social self, caught between the gravity that defines us and the anticipation of overcoming it, between the need to belong and our existential homelessness, between the desire for setting sail and our longing for rest.

A sculptural installation that invokes the modernist idiom via a reference to the ghost ship from Yannis Scarimbas' "Figaro's Solo", using a similarly melancholy, yet playful, mood to reflect the unfulfilled vision of a utopian world.

The improvised flight from relentless reality but also its perpetual procrastination make up the space of the game. Materiality in a suspended state conjures a passageway, which is the artistic activity itself.

Time schedule:

- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 18:00 pm - 21:00 pm

- Saturday 13:00 pm - 16:00 pm
