FokiaNou Art Space - Lead The Way
Socrates: Let us turn aside here and go along the Ilisos; then we can sit down quietly wherever we please.
Phaedrus: I am fortunate, it seems, in being barefoot; you are so always. It is easiest then for us to go along the brook with our feet in the water, and it is not unpleasant, especially at this time of the year and the day.
Socrates: Lead on then, and look out for a good place where we may sit.
Phaedrus: Do you see that very tall plane tree?
Socrates: What of it?
Phaedrus: There is shade there and a moderate breeze and grass to sit on, or, if we like, to lie down on.
Socrates: Lead the way.
FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present the work of Sebastian Boulter, an Athens-based painter from Finland whose work often refers to environmental issues. He is interested in manipulated landscapes by human beings and other traces and tracks that humans leave behind them in nature. This exhibition of a series of drawings and paintings takes as its subject the river Ilisos, from the area between Kaisariani and Kallithea. Although this part of the river has been covered, that does not preclude one from having a philosophical discussion with a friend next to the river.
Boulter holds a Master degree in painting from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels, Belgium. In Athens for the past year he has served as a cultural attache in the Finnish Institute at Athens, acted as a curator and has been involved in cultural exchange between Finland and Greece.The exhibition has been organized by FokiaNou Art Space and The Finnish Institute at Athens, with a grant from VISEK.

“Symvanta/Episodes”, Ianthi Aggelioglou at Fokianou Art Space
FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present "Symvanta/Episodes" by Ianthi Aggelioglou, an exhibition of textile work and painting on paper, as well as performance. In her second solo show, Aggelioglou explores the relationship between the elements in the process of making work: the place, the material, the sequence. Pieces of fabric cut from the first part of the work, or "episode", become the catalyst for, as well as the material for the next episodes, creating a sequential unified whole. Parts of this series were presented last year in the exhibition "Theorimata" by A.I.C.A, curated by Athena Schina at EMST.
Ianthi Aggelioglou was born in 1978 in Athens, where she lives and works. She is a graduate of the Painting department of the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2004, on an Erasmus scholarship, she attended courses in performance and sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Valencia, Spain. In 2011, she received a Masters in Fine Arts from the Athens School of Fine Arts, on a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation. In 2006 she presented her first solo exhibition entitled "graphi", curated by Emmanuel Mavrommatis, in Athens. She has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and her work can be found in private collections both in Greece and abroad.
FokiaNou Art Space is an artist-run project space in the intimacy of a small apartment in an old building in the center of Athens. The apartment has been transformed into an open space that encourages collaborative creative efforts between Greek and foreign artists, thereby promoting and supporting the local art community. The space hosts exhibitions, workshops and projects under the direction of two artists, Mary Cox and Panagiotis Voulgaris.

The festival's appeal and huge success were proven by the positive responses from the audience, which participated in performances, public lectures, and other festivities.
