Information about who our Garage Sale is for! We support “Merimna” www.merimna.org.gr:
“Merimna” is a non-profit organization and the only one in Greece specializing in Pediatric Palliative Home
Care and Grief Counseling for children and adolescents.
The proceeds from our event will be used to support the Home Palliative Care Service. This is the only service
of its kind in our country that provides, free of charge, medical, nursing, and psychosocial services to children
aged 0–18, from diagnosis through the course of a serious illness until its conclusion.
In addition to the child who is ill, the focus of care is on the parents, siblings, and people from the wider
community who play an important role in the child’s life. This service is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of
healthcare professionals who support children and their families through regular and emergency visits 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year.
The Bereavement Support Counseling Centers in Athens and Thessaloniki offer free psychological support,
provided by qualified psychologists, to children and adolescents who are coping with the loss of a loved one.
Over the course of its 30 years of operation, Merimna has provided free services to more than 50,000 children
and families facing illness and death. It has trained more than 4,500 educators and 1,000 health and mental
health professionals through extensive training programs. Through the “Syn+Desmoi” program, it collaborates
nationwide with schools to support students following traumatic events or disasters.
“Friends of Merimna” www.friendsofmerimna.gr Is a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 to support
Merimna. It is a large group of volunteers with a common goal: to provide Merimna with the resources and
financial support needed to carry out its work.
