For this special feature, we had the opportunity to meet with Christina and Danae, co-founders of MOOVA Global Mobility, with Christina’s mother, Kathy, founder and previous owner of Celebrity International Movers.
Together, they bring over half a century of experience in moving, relocation, and customer care. We spoke about family legacy, entrepreneurship, the evolution of international relocation and how MOOVA Global Mobility is combining traditional values with a fresh, modern approach to helping people move and settle around the world.
You’ve spent more than 25 years in the moving and relocation industry. Was there a specific moment when you thought, “It’s time to build something of my own?”
Christina:
Yes, I believe now is the right time. Moving has been a major part of my life. When I began my career in this industry, I literally fell in love with it. I am now ready to bring my expertise, my knowledge, my passion, and my strong global network into creating something of my own, a new generation of Global Mobility solutions.

Throughout my journey, I have learned that relocation is not just about moving belongings. It is about people, trust, and creating a smooth transition during important moments in their lives. I’m ready to make a meaningful impact on this industry by crafting a more personal and happy relocation experience for people around the world
Kathy:
For me, relocation has always been deeply personal. Before I became a relocation professional, I was an expat myself. I moved from the United States to Greece before relocation services existed in the way they do today.
For me, relocation has always been deeply personal. Before I became a relocation professional, I was an expat myself. I moved from the United States to Greece before relocation services existed in the way they do today.
When my family arrived, there was no support system, no relocation guides, no destination services, and very little practical information available. We had to figure everything out ourselves.
That experience stayed with me and eventually led me to found Celebrity International. My goal was simple: to provide other international families with the support, guidance, and reassurance that I wish my own family had received when we arrived in Greece.
Today, through MOOVA, that same philosophy continues. We help people navigate not only the logistics of a move, but also the emotional and practical realities of building a life in a new country.
Danae:
My path into MOOVA is different, and I think that adds something special. I come from boutique hospitality and customer satisfaction, where every detail affects how a client feels.

I have lived between New York, London, and Greece, so international movement has also been part of my life. With Christina’s deep industry experience, Kathy’s long-standing global mobility knowledge and my hospitality background, we wanted to create a moving company with a different energy: professional, warm, organized and human.
The relocation industry is highly competitive. What gap in the market did MOOVA aim to fill?
Christina:
The gap we identified is really around quality and the overall client experience. We believe people deserve real value for their investment, not just a moving service, but a complete relocation solution.

With MOOVA Global, we want to create a true one-stop-shop by combining destination services with the actual moving process, so clients have everything they need under one trusted partner.
A key difference for us is the personal approach. We believe every client should have one dedicated point of contact, someone who understands their needs, guides them through the journey, and genuinely cares about making their relocation as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Kathy:
Exactly. A good relocation service should not be one-size-fits-all. Some families need full support from arrival to settling in. Others may only need help with specific parts of the process, such as home search, school guidance, paperwork, or orientation.

Because we understand the process so well, we can advise clients honestly on what they truly need and what they do not. With our experience and industry knowledge, we are able to find smart solutions that can also save money for the client.
We do not believe in offering standard packages that include services people do not need. Instead, we design relocation packages that are effective, practical, and tailor-made to each client’s real needs.
Danae:
For me, the gap is between simply “moving things” and truly managing a transition. Our target client is someone who wants to move without hassle, without confusion, and without unexpected surprises along the way. They want to know there is a person next to them handling the logistics, coordinating the details, and keeping them informed.

When creating MOOVA, what were the non-negotiable values or principles you wanted the company to be known for?
Christina:
We want MOOVA to be known for quality, delivering a service that provides true value and consistently exceeds expectations.
We want MOOVA to be known for quality, delivering a service that provides true value and consistently exceeds expectations.
For us, quality is built on strong principles: respect, trust, transparency, and responsibility. These values guide the way we work with our clients, our partners, and our global network.
At the end of the day, we want every client to feel confident that they are in the right hands, with a team that genuinely cares about their move or their relocation journey.
Danae
I would add consistency. In moving and relocation, quality cannot depend on the size of the move or the type of client. Every client deserves attention, respect, and proper guidance.

Another important value is personal contact. Systems are useful, but people still need to speak to someone who understands the situation and can guide them with experience.
You’ve helped countless people move across borders and start new chapters. What have those experiences taught you about people and change?
Christina:
They have taught me that change is exciting, but it can also be emotional and stressful.
They have taught me that change is exciting, but it can also be emotional and stressful.
Even when someone is moving for a good reason — a new job, a new home, a better opportunity, or a new life in Greece — there is usually a moment where they feel overwhelmed. After so many years in this industry, I know that people need reassurance, guidance, and thorough communication.
Over the years, we have often connected clients even after their relocation, especially women who are trying to build a new life, make friends, and feel part of a community. Many of these women clients have become close and long-lasting friends.
Kathy:
One thing I've learned over the years is that relocation is a process, not a single event. The transition doesn't end when the boxes arrive—it truly begins then.

In my experience, it typically takes two to three months for individuals and families to feel settled and comfortable in their new environment. Having professional relocation guidance can make all the difference.
We've seen firsthand how families who work with our relocation consultants adapt more quickly, overcome challenges with confidence, and successfully embrace their new lives. Our goal is not simply to help people move, but to help them feel at home.
Danae:
For me, change always has two sides. There is excitement, but there is also uncertainty. That is why relocation requires emotional intelligence. You need to be a people’s person. Clients must feel trust and security from the very beginning. They need to know that someone is listening, understands their concerns and is by their side throughout the process.

Can you share a memorable relocation or moving story that reminds you why you love this industry?
Christina:
There are so many small moments that remind me why I love this industry. It can be treating a little girl’s teddy bear like a VIP client, helping children find their toy box before anything else or watching the family dog approve the new home before everyone else.

One story I will never forget was a pregnant client moving to New York. Her shipment got stuck at the port of Antwerp, and of course the timing was very sensitive. Through our global network, one phone call helped get the container back on track and ensured the shipment arrived before the baby.
Afterwards, we received flowers and a photo from the family showing the baby sitting on one of our moving boxes. Moments like that are priceless. They remind me that we are not only moving furniture. We are helping people feel safe, settled, and ready to begin again.
Kathy:
One of the most memorable relocation cases I handled involved a woman who moved from the United States to Greece with her husband, an executive who had been relocated by the multinational company he worked for.

They were in the middle of completing their immigration and residency procedures. At that stage of the process, their travel options were restricted. Until their documentation was finalized, they could only travel within the European Union or return to their country of origin, the United States.
Everything was progressing according to plan when she received unexpected news: her daughter, who was living in Africa, had gone into labor several weeks early.
She desperately wanted to be with her daughter and her new grandchild, but without the completion of her residency documentation, she could not travel to Africa. The stress was enormous. On one hand, she was trying to settle into her new life in Greece. On the other, her family needed her thousands of miles away.
Our team immediately stepped in. We worked closely with the relevant authorities, monitored every stage of the application process, coordinated the required documentation, and did everything possible to help move the case forward efficiently.
When her documents were finally issued, she was able to board a flight to Africa and be by her daughter’s side, helping care for her premature grandchild during those critical first weeks.
A few months later, she told us something I will never forget: "You didn’t just help me relocate to Greece. You helped me be where my family needed me most."
What is the biggest mistake people make when relocating to a new country?
Christina:
Many people assume relocation is simply about finding a house, but that is only one part of the process.
Many people assume relocation is simply about finding a house, but that is only one part of the process.
Once a property is selected, there are inspections, negotiations, contracts, utility connections, registrations, documentation, and a long list of practical details that need to be handled correctly.
Some clients come to us after they have already started the process themselves. They may have found a property online or completed part of the paperwork, but because they are experiencing the process for the first time in Greece, they often discover unexpected complications along the way.
Ultimately, our role is not to take control away from clients. It is to protect them and make the process easier, faster and far less stressful.
Danae:
Exactly! The biggest mistake is trying to do everything alone.
Exactly! The biggest mistake is trying to do everything alone.
When people relocate, they are already dealing with a major life transition. They are starting a new job, helping their family adjust, finding their routine, and adapting to a new environment. It is very easy to become overwhelmed by the number of tasks, decisions and administrative requirements involved.
My advice is always to focus on what matters most: your family, your work and your new life. Let experienced professionals help with the process.
Kathy:
I think one of the biggest mistakes people make when relocating to a new country is assuming that the process and lifestyle will be the same as in their home country. Every country has its own culture, way of living, housing standards and expectations.
I think one of the biggest mistakes people make when relocating to a new country is assuming that the process and lifestyle will be the same as in their home country. Every country has its own culture, way of living, housing standards and expectations.
For example, someone relocating from Texas might expect to find a large house with a big yard near the center of Athens, but the reality of living in Greece is very different. Understanding these differences before moving is extremely important.
That is where having the right guidance makes a big difference. A successful relocation is not only about finding a new home. It is about understanding the destination, adapting to the new environment and having a partner who can help you make informed decisions and feel comfortable in your new country. We have developed guides for families and children because we understand that every member of the family experiences the move differently.
MOOVA places a strong emphasis on personal support and client care. In an increasingly automated world, why is the human touch still so important?
Christina:
A move involves personal belongings, memories, deadlines, emotions, and often a lot of pressure. People want to know that there is someone responsible, someone who understands the situation, and someone who will pick up the phone when needed.
A move involves personal belongings, memories, deadlines, emotions, and often a lot of pressure. People want to know that there is someone responsible, someone who understands the situation, and someone who will pick up the phone when needed.
This human connection is also important within our global network. Meeting our counterparts in different parts of the world and building real relationships with them helps us enormously. It allows us to offer better service to our clients and also adds to our global knowledge. That is why we invest heavily in travelling, meeting our agents, and maintaining strong international partnerships.
Danae:
Of course, there are services we are formally responsible for, but when people move to a new country, unexpected situations arise all the time. Sometimes a family needs advice that falls outside the original scope of the project. Sometimes they need a recommendation, a connection, help understanding a local process, or simply someone to point them in the right direction. We want people to feel that they have a trusted partner by their side, not simply a service provider.

Athens has become an increasingly attractive destination for international professionals, investors, and digital nomads. What changes have you observed in recent years?
Kathy:
Years ago, relocation services in Greece were mainly connected to corporate assignments. Today, the picture has changed. We see more professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, families, and remote workers requesting relocation support because they want to avoid bureaucratic delays and begin their new life as quickly and smoothly as possible.

People now understand that relocation services can save them time, stress, and unnecessary mistakes. Instead of trying to figure out every process alone, they can have guidance from the beginning and focus on settling in, working, finding the right home, and enjoying their new life in Greece.
On the moving side, we also see a change. Shipments are often smaller than before, because many people are moving more flexibly. But even a smaller shipment still needs proper planning, coordination, top quality and care.
Danae:
I think Athens is moving from being seen as a destination to being seen as a base. That is an important shift. Athens is becoming more international, but it has not lost its personality. It is still warm, layered, sometimes chaotic and very alive.

Christina:
In recent years, we have seen a notable increase in international professionals, investors and digital nomads choosing not only Athens, but also the Greek islands as their base. This has been made possible by the improved infrastructure on many islands, better connectivity, remote working flexibility and the overall quality of life Greece offers.

At MOOVA, we are increasingly supporting relocations to island destinations, including more remote locations. Our specialists are readily available to assist with every stage of the process, from planning and logistics to settling-in support, making relocation to the Greek islands smoother, more organized and less stressful.
What makes Athens such a unique city for someone relocating from abroad, and what do you think surprises them most about life here?
Christina:
Athens offers something that many international professionals are increasingly looking for: quality of life.
Athens offers something that many international professionals are increasingly looking for: quality of life.
It is unique because it combines so many different lifestyles within one city. When helping clients relocate, we always explain that there is no single "best" neighborhood. The right choice depends on whether someone is relocating with a family, working remotely, commuting daily, or looking for a more urban lifestyle.
Many international families are drawn to areas such as Kifissia in the northern suburbs or Glyfada on the Athens Riviera because of the schools, amenities, and established international communities. At the same time, professionals, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads are increasingly attracted to central neighborhoods such as Kolonaki, Plaka, or even the increasingly vibrant Kypseli.
One of the biggest decisions for newcomers is not simply where to live, but how they want to experience Athens.
Kathy:
Greek culture has taught us to help people no matter what. This is something clients feel very strongly when they arrive. They may expect paperwork, traffic, or practical difficulties, but they are often pleasantly surprised by the human side of life here.

A neighbor may help, someone at a local shop may remember them, or another parent at school may offer advice. These small moments help people feel less like visitors and more like part of a community.
One thing we care deeply about is helping people build connections. Relocation does not end when the boxes are delivered or the residence permit is issued. People need friends, activities, schools, communities, and a sense of belonging. That is why we often help clients discover local clubs, activities, international communities, and networks that make the transition easier.
Danae:
I think many people arrive with one image of Athens and then discover there are actually many different versions of the city. Some people want the sea, some want neighborhood life, some want culture and nightlife right outside their door. Part of our role is helping them find the version of Athens that feels most like home.

That is what we want to help with at MOOVA: not only the move, but the transition into real life here.
Before we wrap up, is there one final message you’d like to share with anyone considering a move to Greece or working with MOOVA?
Christina:
My message to anyone considering a move to Greece is that relocation is a big life decision and having the right support makes all the difference. It is not only about moving your belongings. It is about starting a new chapter with confidence and peace of mind.
