The first Greek Panorama exhibition in New York was completed with great success and impressive impact on the American public and tourism professionals, opening a new chapter in the history of Greece's exposure to the US market.
Vanderbilt Hall, at the eastern side of the iconic Grand Central Terminal, in the “heart” of Manhattan, was filled with colors, images, traditional music and flavors of Greece, surprising and exciting the transit passengers and visitors.
Tens of thousands of New Yorkers and tourists from other countries saw and photographed the brand "Greece" these two days (May 12-13, 2017), creating a sweeping “wave” of posts and “selfies” in social media.
Greek melodies from two bouzoukis, as well as the traditional dance groups of the Academy of Hellenic Paideia, the Chian Federation of America and the Cypriot Federation excited visitors creating a unique atmosphere.
It should be highlighted that during the exhibition huge quantities of informative material, both of the organization and of the exhibitors who participated in Greek Panorama, were distributed. Among them, more than 20,000 issues of the “Hellas Blu” and “Greece Is” magazines were distributed. It was the first release and distribution for Hellas Blu at the exhibition, which will be published three times a year and distributed exclusively in the US market.
The inauguration of Greek Panorama was attended by significant members of the Greek-American Community of New York, such as His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, MP Carolyn Maloney, Permanent Representatives of Greece and Cyprus to the UN, ambassadors Aikaterini Boura and Kornelios Korneliou respectively, The Consul General of Greece, Dr. Konstantinos Koutras, Consul Manos Koumparakis, Press Office Director of the Greece to the United Nations Athanasia Papatriadafyllou, Director of Greek National Tourism Organization in USA and Canada Grigoria Kamaterou, President of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of the Greater New York Petros Galatoulas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Atlantic Bank Nancy Papaioannou, tourist businessman Peter Vlitas of the Travel Leaders Group, as well as celebrities and famous friends of Greece.
The Greek Food Corner, which was operating in the exhibition area, was offered by the Kellari restaurant.
The great success of Greek Panorama is also of particular importance due to the difficulty of the whole project, as the technical and functional specifications of such an exhibition at Grand Central Terminal are extremely complex and rigorous.
Greek Panorama B2B Sessions: More than 380 business meetings!
The organizers’ initiative for the Professionals Day at Greek Panorama on Thursday, May 11, at Kellari restaurant, left excellent impressions and noted a great success. About 30 tour operators, tourist business executives, professionals and journalists from New York City and neighboring large urban centers had the opportunity to meet representatives of destinations and tourist companies from the Greek market, to get informed about their products and services and explore new collaborations.
From morning to late at night, it is estimated that more than 380 meetings were held, while the American professionals’ feedback on the event, the participants and the venue was enthusiastic. Most, in fact, already requested to ensure their participation in the next event.
Greek Panorama B2B Sessions participations from Greece included Sani Resort, Aqua Vista Hotels, Maris Hotels, Hilton Athens, Grace Santorini, Afea Travel & Congress, Luxury Greece DMC & Travel, Instayacht, ChrisCrossing VIP Travel Services, Travel Smart, Timothy's Travel - Dreams Give Wings Travel, Big Blue Travel, Argo Travel, TravelWay, Variety Cruises, Sky Express and Cyprus Tourism Organization.

Is Athens Europe's New Art Capital?
“Athens is slightly lawless, but that’s one of the nicest things about it,” says Michael Landy, a British artist currently creating an ongoing exhibition in the city called ‘Breaking News - Athens.’ His exhibition will explore politics, culture, and the debt and refugee crisis in Greece. Landy and his eight assistants have so far created over 400 drawings, which are created from items Athenians send through the mail. Images range from pieces of graffiti to street signs, bank logos, newspaper headlines, and more.
In addition to Landy’s exhibition, BBC describes the booming arts scene in Athens and other exhibitions such as Documenta 14, which put Athens on the map in the international art world. The city attracts many, with low rents, a lively local scene, and good weather. Athens is especially attractive to artists who see the abandoned industrial buildings perfect for their next creative space.
“There is a hype around Athens, it’s true,” says Elina Kountouri, Neon’s director. “Athens is sexy now.”
As BBC says, “Perhaps, then, it’s time to stop saying that Athens is the new Berlin, and instead follow the lead of one Greek graffiti writer, who recently scrawled the following slogan in the city’s streets: “Athens is the new Athens.”

In Athens ~ An Unexpected Greek Renaissance
A journalist from Travel + Leisure recently traveled to Athens to experience first-hand the revival of the arts scene. He shares with us his time spent in Athens, giving us a new perspective and discovering for the first time raki in outdoor cafes, open air cinemas, and ancient art in one of the city’s many art galleries.
“I started where everyone does, in the mythic Athens, the tourist Athens. But when I reached the Acropolis, I kept walking: past the stands selling archaeological schlock, past the spectators on Segways, into the park that surrounds Philopappou Hill. I took a seat on a rock ledge overlooking olive trees, where a few smart Athenians had strung hammocks to watch the sunset. Someone was playing a bouzouki. Someone else was practicing the trumpet. Everywhere there were ruins. The yawning sun cast the whole park in a strange sepia glow.”
“Soon it was dark. I was pleasantly drunk, wandering again. Every restaurant was flung open, the interiors empty, the tables and chairs spilled onto the street. You could not tell, based on the confusion of small plates arriving and departing, whether people were just starting dinner or almost finished. No one, as far as I could tell, had any intention of leaving.”

A Different Perspective - Exploring Northern Greece
Northern Greece is gaining ground for its rich culture and diversity, as well as beautiful landscapes and plenty of outdoor activities. However popular Athens and the Greek islands will be, sometimes it’s worth exploring the road less-traveled. Vogue takes us to 3 areas in Northern Greece where you can go wine tasting in the Rhodope mountains or visit the Great Prespa Lakes, bordering Albania and Republic of Macedonia.
Kavala
‘Northeast of Thessaloniki, in Greek Macedonia, the port town of Kavala serves as an excellent base for visiting the ancient city of Philippi and wine tastings around the semi-continental Rhodope mountains.’
Nymfaio
‘Grevana, to the south, is a quaint village recognizable for its arched stone bridges, mushrooms, and snowboarding. There is a half-pipe at posh Vasilitsa resort and Valia Calda National Park is nestled into a valley nearby as well.’

Athens Pride Festival Takes Central Syntagma Square
Athens once more is preparing to host the Athens Pride Festival, which will take place at central Syntagma Square this year. The 2017 festival will take place on June 10 under the motto “It’s Education”, aiming to raise awareness on the issues that concern the LGBTQI community in Greece, mainly the legal recognition of gender identity.
The first Athens Pride took place in June 2005 and marked the first Pride Parade through the city center and past the Hellenic Parliament during daylight hours. Since then, the Athens Pride festival has grown and in June 2014 included 20,000 people of all ages.
By delivering the message, “It’s Education”, the organizers wish to focus on the Greek word “Παιδεία” (education) and its broad meaning, which encompasses the concepts of schooling, upbringing, learning and culture cultivation.
