CineDoc Presents: Survivors: Rewriting Her Myth
Three women who have survived gender-based violence meet in a creative writing workshop and embark on a journey of healing and empowerment, rewriting ancient Greek myths and transforming patriarchal narratives of oppression into stories of resistance and renewal.

Directed by Maria Louka and Nina Maria Paschalidou and produced by Marni Films, “Survivors: Rewriting Her Myth” follows the stories of Olga, Georgia and Ivi as they revisit their experiences through the myths of Persephone, Europa and Alcestis.

Georgia, an intimacy coordinator and choreographer, identifies with Persephone, who was abducted by Hades. Olga, a journalist and writer who has survived rape, finds parallels with Europa, while Ivi, a transgender woman and sex worker who has experienced a transphobic attack, connects with Alcestis.

Through a creative writing workshop led by poet and theatre director Pavlina Marvin, the three women reclaim these ancient stories and rewrite them as narratives of resistance, strength and renewal.

The documentary is part of the CineDoc Documentary Film Festival 2026–27 and will be screened in Athens, Volos, Larissa and Rethymno. The screenings are organised as part of events raising awareness for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November).
