Asimakopoulos is a landmark pastry shop in Athens that has survived for over 100 years thanks to the quality of its ingredients and respect for authentic flavors. Since it first opened in 1915, it has been offering mouth-watering pastries, cookies, and cakes, as well as savory pies for those who don’t have much of a sweet tooth. Melomakarona promise to take us on a culinary journey to the flavors that defined our childhood. If you visit, make sure not to miss the diples, too—they are simply delicious!

Run by Greece’s most popular pastry chef, Sweet Alchemy offers unique and high-quality desserts. What we particularly love about this dessert shop is that the desserts are not overloaded with sugar; the sweetness is just right so that it leaves you craving more! Although it is famous for its chocolates, which are indeed heavenly, the melomakarona are so worth trying. They are traditionally made with lots of cinnamon and the most aromatic syrup you have ever tasted!

Remoundos Bakery

Probably the oldest bakery in the Kypseli area, Remoundos offers a variety of baked goods, including bread, buns, breadsticks, and pies. Its cheese pie and jam tart (pasta flora), in particular, are outstanding. But the melomakarona don’t disappoint either. Crunchy and juicy at the same time, with a strong orange aroma, they hold a special place in our hearts!

Yellow flour, freshly ground cinnamon and nutmeg meet fresh orange juice and excellent quality oil, combined with thyme honey, and roasted walnuts. The recipe? Simple. The result? Exceptional! If you happen to be there, make sure to try the millefeuille. It’s one of Konstantinidis’ specialties, and they will prepare it right in front of you! A profiterole is also a great option.
