The Acropolis Museum participates in the European Heritage Days 2025 with the program "The Erechtheion and the Acropolis Museum: an unusual ancient temple within a contemporary building". The program explores two remarkable landmarks - the Erechtheion of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum - and shows the subtle analogies that connect them.

Situated on the northern side of the Sacred Rock, the Erechtheion is distinguished by its ingenious architectural design, which successfully accommodated multiple cults, incorporated mythical sacred sites, and preserved local traditions of Athens’ distant past. In parallel, the Acropolis Museum - an emblematic contemporary public building - was created to safeguard, house, and showcase the masterpieces of the Acropolis, as well as the remains of the ancient neighborhood uncovered on its site. Its architectural design, shaped by the constraints of its location, reflects the continuity of history, mirrors the ancient routes and topographies of the Sacred Rock, and forges a connection between the ancient world of gods and mortals and today’s visitor.

Join the Museum’s archaeologists on an engaging dual journey through time, bridging past and future. The program is in line with this year’s pan-European theme ‘Architectural heritage - bridging the past with the future’.

Useful Information:

Registration: Limited to 30 persons per program. For you participation, please register online at events.theacropolismuseum.gr (Registrations start on Friday 19/9)
Participation: To ensure your participation in the program, a general admission ticket must be obtained by presenting your reservation code at the ticket counters up to 20 minutes before the program starts.

On the occasion of this year’s celebration of the European Heritage Days, on Sunday 28 September 2025, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., entrance to the Museum exhibition areas will be free for visitors.

“Safe Haven", Mary Cox & Sara Ettlinger

Opening: 1 October 2025 7:30 p.m.
Duration:  1 October – 6 November 2025-09-25
Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 1 -3:30 p.m. and Saturday 4 – 7 p.m.

In a two-women exhibition, Mary Cox and Sarah Ettlinger address a common theme, a sanctuary facing an uncertain future.  Their paintings focus on a special swimming place, dear to each artist, the Kenwood Ladies Ponds in London and a public access beach in Vouliagmeni.  The  work highlights the vulnerability of both,  the likelihood that they will not stay the same and will lose certain qualities valued by the artists.

Mary Cox paints portraits of aging ramshackle houses located behind an orphanage in Vouliagmeni. Nestled between two very expensive and over-touristed beaches, this spot gives public access to a beautiful “free beach” with no organized lounges or umbrellas, something which is becoming ever more rare. The Greek church however, has sold the orphanage to developers, and the small shacks could be razed and the property there developed as well, limiting access to the beach. The clapboard shacks were built in the mid 20th century and given to families for use during the summer months, with each family allowed use only one time. The shacks were modified and added onto by new families every year, until the program ended around the year 2000. Since then, they were abandoned to the elements, and over the years covered with graffiti. The contrast of bright coloured urban graffiti with local pines and greenery, with glimpses of the turquoise bays in the background, produces a visual excitement, evoking a fairy tale scenario.

SARAH ETTLINGER explores the importance of preserving the few areas designated as women-only. She brings to light the undeniable and special bond between women when partaking in a single-sex event, action, ceremony or ritual together, asking ultimately, ‘What is it to be a woman? “

The series took seed during Lockdown with her winter swimming along the coastline of Attika, an activity that kept her sane during this extraordinary time. The swims became ritualistic uniting a group of women and bonding them to nature. Simultaneously it was triggered by the debate brought to a head by the campaign #LetWomenSwim– in their demand to preserve the unique single-sex domain, the Kenwood Ladies’ Ponds London.

Since 2022, he's been touring the world practically non-stop, making thousands of people laugh! 20 countries and counting!

It explores cultural clashes, and the differences and similarities that Latinxs and Europeans share. Athens Welcomes Porosi

In the old days, "πώρωση" (porosi) was a widely used word and concept to describe passion, pleasure, excitement, delight, madness. Even as a fleeting intense sensation in music, film, food, play, life in general. Then it kind of disappeared. "POROSI" is now here to experientially bring back the meaning of this forgotten word through music.

The newly formed POROSI, created by one of the founding members of Arte Fiasco, officially introduces itself and announces its first three scheduled concerts for the coming season.

The presale for the first three concerts is available, including Early Bird tickets.

POROSI 01: SARAH DAVACHI + KARA-LIS COVERDALE

Tuesday 7 October 2025
Opening Act: Bethnal Greener
at Gazarte Main Stage

Two of the most important contemporary representatives of the minimal, experimental scene for the first time in Greece, in a unique double bill appearance happening for the first time ever in Europe.
Sarah Davachi, is a Canadian composer and performer of organ and Hammond B3, who moves both between acoustic forms and electronic instruments, and between melody and structured noise. Influenced by minimalist principles, early music concepts and experimental practices, she has created a remarkable discography and has presented her work internationally in many iconic venues.

Kara-Lis Coverdale is an internationally acclaimed Canadian artist who moves comfortably between acoustic and electronic sound, creating works that transcend the boundaries of musical genres. Her work is characterized by a deep understanding of electronic music without borders, rooted in the interconnected paths of musical systems and languages.

Bethnal Greener is the name of the musical vehicle of Kostis Kilymis, sound artist and producer. Starting from the realm of noise and electroacoustic experimentation, he unfolds narratives between stripped down electronics and the insistent inner pulse of sounds. His new album, "Field", is expected to be released in the autumn.

POROSI 02: OREN AMBARCHI

Sunday 7 December 2025
Opening Acts: Tropical Geometry + Savvas Metaxas
at Gazarte Main Stage

Oren Ambarchi's music lives at the intersection between different styles and influences: contemporary electronic music, improvisation, experimental minimalism, deceptive simplicity, latent rock physicality. Since the late 1990s his experiments in guitar abstraction and extended technique have led to a more personal and unique sound world that incorporates a wider palette of instruments and sensibilities.

Ambarchi has performed, collaborated and recorded with a wide range of artists including Fennesz, Sunn 0))), Alvin Lucier, John Zorn, Merzbow, Jim O'Rourke, Fire! and many others.

Tropical Geometry began as a diverse musical project between friends, which resulted in their studio album "Luck Mountain" (2021). Now operating as a dynamic duo (Babis Theocharis & Antonis Papadopoulos), they unfold their experimental pop music through their sonic explorations into the paths of Krautrock, psychedelia and minimalism. The project's live performances are extremely rare.

Savvas Metaxas is a musician and sound artist active in the fields of experimental music, field recordings and modular synthesizer. With more than 15 releases on vinyl, CD and cassettes, his music has been released on numerous labels such as LINE, Superpang, Granny Records, Glistening Examples, More Mars, Flaming, Pines, Coherent States, Falt, Grisaille, and he has performed in numerous concerts organized in experimental art spaces, music festivals, museums, galleries and concert halls. His latest release "Feedback Poetics", is out by "The Tapeworm".

POROSI 03: DECIUS

Saturday 10 January 2026
Opening Acts: TBA
at AN Club

DECIUS is an obscure supergroup. Lias Saoudi of Fat White Family, Luke & Liam May of Trashmouth Records and Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London & Warmduscher - have travelled planet earth together since 2021 freeing humans from unbearable banality with the release of Decius Vol. I and more recently Decius Vol. II (Splendour & Obedience). Through them they have revealed to all those they have met along the way, exactly what was missing from their lives: an uncontrollable impulse with no boundaries and no reason.

Early Bird: 23€ (limited amount of tickets for POROSI 01 + 02)
Presale: 26€
Door: 29€

*For the concerts POROSI 01 + POROSI 02 at Gazarte Main Stage (October 7 and December 7, 2025) standing tickets will be available for 20€, after the Early Bird seated tickets are sold out.

Athenogates — Art for Animal Welfare

A unique group art exhibition, “Athenogates”, opens at Andie Art Gallery on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 19:00, supporting Dorotea’s Cats Rescue, a volunteer initiative dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and finding homes for stray cats, founded by Dorotea Merkouri.

sweet temptation

Curated by art historian Annita Patsouraki, the exhibition features paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, and decorative works inspired by the animal world and the harmonious relationship between humans and animals. As Patsouraki notes, the artworks blend realism, abstraction, and symbolism to emphasize the importance of care, responsibility, and respect for all living creatures.

With the motto “We Love Animals – We Love Life”, the show highlights the mysterious and enchanting world of cats, as well as the broader animal kingdom, encouraging empathy and action for animal welfare. The exhibition aims to combine artistic creation with tangible support for animals, promoting awareness, compassion, and adoption.

About Dorotea Merkouri

Greek-Italian actress and Italian cuisine author, Dorotea has been devoted to stray animals since her youth. Upon returning to Greece, she intensified her efforts, founding Dorotea’s Cats Rescue, coordinating daily rescues, medical care, sterilizations, and adoptions across Athens. Since 2020 (and more intensively from 2022), her team of volunteers and veterinarians has helped over 150 cats, overseeing 120 sterilizations and facilitating 35 adoptions.

Dorotea emphasizes that in Greece, where state support for stray animals is limited, volunteer action is both a responsibility and a duty for everyone.

Haris Tsalpara returns to the stage of THEATRE OF THE NO, on Saturday, October 11th  at 21:30. With her expressive voice and unique musical approach, she creates a world that blends the traditional with the contemporary, offering a musical experience that transcends conventional structures.

 DSC3034 2

Her first solo album–book “Anadysi is an innovative work that combines Eastern modality with electronic elements, delivering a musical journey beyond ordinary forms. It includes 6 spoken word poems and 7 songs, with texts, lyrics, and music written by Tsalpara herself. The work explores profound themes such as entropy, rebirth, and the perception of time.

Her music forms a fascinating sonic mosaic, weaving together traditional motifs, trip-hop, beats, noise, and baroque elements. The constant transformation of the soundscapes goes beyond the usual “verse-chorus” structure, offering a freer and more dynamic musical experience. The evening unfolds in two parts: In the first, the audience will journey through the texts and songs of “Anadysi”, discovering Haris Tsalpara’s unique musical world. In the second part, the music turns into a celebration with beloved folk, rebetiko, and traditional songs we all know, sing, or dance to. A unique experience where new and old songs, innovative sounds, and familiar melodies coexist.

CINEDOC Presents: The Goals Of August

Every summer, in the mountainous region of southern Pindos, an improvised football tournament brings life to the villages and their people. The eventful journey of the Armatoliko team through the tournament reveals the fascinating revival of a small community, one that may remain almost empty for most of the year, yet whose spirit stays very much alive.

A kaleidoscope of small and big moments, The Goals of August offers a tender, lived-in glimpse into the life of a place,  from the solitude of winter to the fleeting microcosm of summer, when the village opens its doors and takes a deep breath, filling once again with its people, both old and new.

At its heart lies football — a universal language, a pretext for epic quarrels and wild celebrations — in a film that serves as a portrait not just of a village, but of the memory of an entire country.

Following its screenings in Thessaloniki (October 15), Trikala (from October 16), and Larissa (October 17), the film continues its cinematic journey in Athens through CineDoc. From October 23 to November 6, The Goals of August will be showing at Danaos Cinema, while on November 8 and 9 it will screen at the Greek Film Archive. The film will also be presented in Volos on October 25, with the director in attendance.

In the coming weeks, additional screenings will take place across Greece through the CineDoc network.

The film is also nominated for the Audience Award in both Athens and Volos.

Director’s Note

The Goals of August is a kaleidoscope of events, incidents, and moments from the everyday life of a village in southern Pindos during an improvised football tournament. The purpose of the documentary is to create, through observation, an “impressionistic” portrait of a small community as it comes alive in the summer — a portrait filled with both light and shadow, charm and, at times, unease. Despite its contradictions, it remains unexpectedly vivid and authentic, showing how a small community may stand nearly empty for most of the year, yet its spirit endures.
