Claims Assistant Wanted

DESCRIPTION

A well-known commercial marine claims consultancy is looking to recruit a full-time Claims Assistant for their Piraeus office. This is an entry-level position that would suit a recent graduate or someone looking to enter the shipping industry.

This role has three main elements, the principal tasks for which are as follows.

1. Claims Handling

a) To undertake allocated claims and related tasks as requested by the Claims staff to provide optimal claims services to clients.
b) To cooperate with our partners, the McLean group, across all their offices as required.
c) To liaise with Clients, their Insured, and other third parties in the maritime community, both locally and internationally, as required by the Principal and Claims staff.
d) To provide advice or recommendations to Clients on claims handling strategy to resolve the claim in the most effective and expedient manner within personal authority levels.
e) To maintain a regular diary review of all ongoing claims in respect of key dates and actions.
f) General claims administration and organization including orderly document management to ensure ready accessibility of files to all Claims staff.
g) Maintain regular reviews of claims in respect of cost estimates, processing payments, and reimbursements.
 
2. Assistance to Claims staff

To assist the Claims staff as requested, including:

a) General administration on claims files including requesting updates from Clients, and other third parties.
b) The processing of client invoices.
c) The review of third-party contractors invoices.
d) The processing of payments to third parties.
 
3. Personal Development

a) To develop technical knowledge and skills over time utilizing written resources, occasional training courses, and observations (such as hospital visits, ship inspections, seminars, and conferences).
b) Meeting Clients and other third parties as required to develop and then maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to enhance claims service delivery.
c) To assist with the management of company resources such as the library and reference materials.

Note: The tasks listed are representative, but not exhaustive. It is anticipated that there will be some role fluidity to meet the demands of the business and as the incumbent gains experience and expertise. Occasional travel may be required, particularly in the event of a large or complex incident as well as assistance outside office hours from time to time.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following.

Experience

a) Excellent English and Greek language and communication skills, both verbal and written.
b) Evidence of developing organizational skills and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously with the necessary attention to detail.
c) Strong administration and IT skills across a variety of common platforms but mainly Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and data entry.
d) Evidence of a practical and commercial approach to problem-solving.
e) Evidence of strong social skills that can be applied to a work context.
