Athenogates — Art for Animal Welfare

Greek-Italian actress and Italian cuisine author, Dorotea has been devoted to stray animals since her youth. Upon returning to Greece, she intensified her efforts, founding Dorotea’s Cats Rescue, coordinating daily rescues, medical care, sterilizations, and adoptions across Athens. Since 2020 (and more intensively from 2022), her team of volunteers and veterinarians has helped over 150 cats, overseeing 120 sterilizations and facilitating 35 adoptions.

Haris Tsalpara “Anadysi… and other stories” at Theatre Of The No

Her first solo album–book “Anadysi” is an innovative work that combines Eastern modality with electronic elements, delivering a musical journey beyond ordinary forms. It includes 6 spoken word poems and 7 songs, with texts, lyrics, and music written by Tsalpara herself. The work explores profound themes such as entropy, rebirth, and the perception of time.
Her music forms a fascinating sonic mosaic, weaving together traditional motifs, trip-hop, beats, noise, and baroque elements. The constant transformation of the soundscapes goes beyond the usual “verse-chorus” structure, offering a freer and more dynamic musical experience. The evening unfolds in two parts: In the first, the audience will journey through the texts and songs of “Anadysi”, discovering Haris Tsalpara’s unique musical world. In the second part, the music turns into a celebration with beloved folk, rebetiko, and traditional songs we all know, sing, or dance to. A unique experience where new and old songs, innovative sounds, and familiar melodies coexist.
CINEDOC Presents: The Goals Of August
The Goals of August is a kaleidoscope of events, incidents, and moments from the everyday life of a village in southern Pindos during an improvised football tournament. The purpose of the documentary is to create, through observation, an “impressionistic” portrait of a small community as it comes alive in the summer — a portrait filled with both light and shadow, charm and, at times, unease. Despite its contradictions, it remains unexpectedly vivid and authentic, showing how a small community may stand nearly empty for most of the year, yet its spirit endures.

Cinedoc Presents: Lo
When director Thanasis Vasileiou returns to his childhood apartment after his mother’s death, he confronts secrets that weigh not only on his family’s history but also on the history of modern Greece. Thus begins a journey—a personal diary—through the invisible traces connecting the city and its people to their past.
A deeply personal film, cinematographically minimalist and emotionally profound, exploring the ways emotional memory intersects with collective memory, addressing trauma, the silence felt as guilt, love, and ultimately acceptance.
The documentary premiered at the 27th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, winning the EKKOMED Award for Best Debut Director (Greek Program), as well as the Grand Prix “Golden Wreath of Megisti” and the “Odysseas” Award for Best Documentary by a Greek Diaspora Director at the 10th Beyond Borders – International Documentary Festival of Kastellorizo.
From November 13, Lo will be released in Athens, screening daily at Danaos Cinema. Screenings will include Q&A sessions with the creators and guest experts, including historians and members of the academic community. Screenings will also take place in Larissa (Nov 21), Volos (Nov 22), Thessaloniki (Dec 10), and Rethymno (Dec 13), with the presence of director Thanasis Vasileiou. Additional screenings across Greece will be announced soon through the CineDoc network.
The film is nominated for the Audience Award in Athens, Volos, and Rethymno.
Director’s Note
When I returned from France to my empty childhood apartment in Athens after my mother’s death, I felt like an intruder. Everything that had remained in the shadows for decades was now mine. I discovered debts I hadn’t known about. I uncovered lies that shook me. How do we inherit our parents’ mistakes? How do we empty their home?
Amid the fear of losing a space that held my last memories with my mother—and an entire childhood—I began filming the now-empty surfaces with my phone. I was essentially rediscovering forgotten gestures from the past, as I had worked as a cameraman for over ten years before leaving Greece for France. Putting myself behind a lens again stirred time and reconnected me with the heritage of the past. For me, “filming” became synonymous with “remembering.”
Fragments of family memory, silenced for years, began to cautiously surface. Some led me to the dark years of the dictatorship. How can cinema give shape to a past that resists through silence?

Cinedoc Presents: TACK
Synopsis
When Olympic champion Sofia Bekatorou publicly reveals that she was raped by a powerful official of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, she sparks the #MeToo movement in Greece and gives hundreds of women the strength to break their own silence. One of these women is Amalia, a young sailing champion who decides to report her former coach for the systematic abuse she suffered from him between the ages of 11 and 13.
TACK follows the two women over two years, documenting their lives and their struggle during a landmark trial — the first of the Greek #MeToo. Animated sketches bring to life the harsh courtroom proceedings, during which Amalia endures grueling testimony, victim blaming and repeated attempts to undermine her credibility. At the same time, Sofia is forced to confront her trauma and her relationship with her father again, while pushing for institutional reforms.
The two women realize that their fight to change Greek society is still at its beginning. Thus, they will need to “tack,” just as sailors do when maneuvering between opposing winds.

Director’s note
TACK is a very personal record of the lives and the struggle of two women for justice. Sofia’s and Amalia’s lives intersect when Amalia decides to send Sofia a message a few days after Sofia’s public testimony about being raped by a powerful figure in sailing. From that moment on, a legal battle begins against Amalia’s former coach.
The film follows and observes the two women over two years of complex and painful legal procedures. Their lives in the film unfold in parallel: I began filming Sofia while she was becoming a national symbol, not knowing what would follow and while the wave of accusations had only just begun to unfold. Shortly after I met Amalia and began spending time filming her and her family. A great intimacy developed between us, as well as with their families. Especially during the period of the trial, my camera became, in a sense, a repository of their thoughts and feelings. Thus, a window opened to me into the world of complex psychological trauma and how this affects victims and those close to them — no one remains unscathed when a rape occurs.
However, I wanted to go beyond the lives of the protagonists to tell the story of a broken criminal justice system and how it fragments victims. Through this painful record, I hope to raise questions about the lack of specialized training for judges and lawyers on gender-based violence and child abuse, as well as the absence of a general framework for victim protection. I also hope to provoke questions about how sexist beliefs, dominant culture, toxicity and pathology isolate, stigmatize and silence victims, even when those victims are children.
