The sixth International Music Festival of Aegina will take place from August 12 to September 2 at four different venues on the Saronic island: the Avra coast in front of the Kolona archaeological site, the Seegy Residence amphitheatre in Pachia Rachi, the Temple of Aphaea and the Kapralos Museum. Spotlighting chamber music and singing, this year’s festival programme has taken its cue from a poem by Nikos Gatsos, “The gate to the skies always opens up with a song”.
This year’s treats include: a chamber music concert featuring Tchaikovsky and Franck compositions performed by Alissa Margulis (violin) and Lily Maisky (piano), among others (August 12, Avra coast); a performance of Monteverdi and Vivaldi baroque arias and duets under the full moon (August 13, Temple of Aphaea); a tribute to songwriter Nikos Gatsos on the centenary of his birth, including songs by Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis and Stavros Xarchakos (August 14, Avra coast); an evening of American ballads by George Gershwin and Cole Porter performed by Elli Paspala (song) and Takis Farazis (piano) on August 19, at the Seegy Residence; and an evening of Schumann lieder (August 28, Kapralos Museum). At a pre-festival event on August 5, festival director and pianist Dora Bakopoulou will perform with pianist and composer Stefanos Korkolis.
Performance time for all concerts is 9pm. For full programme visit http://www.aeginamusicfestival.gr/en/content/7th-aegina-international-music-festival-2012
