Greeks love social media

Greeks love social media
Greeks have embraced social media networks in recent years, with seven in 10 regularly visiting Facebook and microblogging service Twitter while six in 10 are committed followers of blogs and forums, a recent study has shown.

According to the e-business research center of the Athens University of Economics and Business, nearly four in 10 (37 percent) of those using social networks do so to keep in touch with family and friends, 32 percent say they log in for fun and 28 percent to upload photos or videos. The majority stick to these straightforward functions with just one in four experimenting with new applications. The most active users are the young, with 60 percent of the 14-26 year age group claiming to log in daily.

Facebook remains the most popular site, followed by Twitter. The latest count revealed that 3.5 million Greeks have a profile page on Facebook, with 1.5 million being active users. Last year Greeks posted some 88 million updates and comments on Facebook and sent around 66 million “tweets.”
