Placebo at Terra Vibe Park on September 11

Placebo at Terra Vibe Park on September 11
Placebo, the beloved band of Greek audiences, returns to Athens for a single concert. The princes of alternative rock will be at Terra Vibe Park on 11 September. Their achievements are notable: six albums, more than 12 million in sales and 16 years of success at the top of the world charts. Renewed, with an MTV award for Best Alternative Act to their name, Placebo return for a dynamic evening at Terra Vibe Park. The band was formed in 1994 in London by Brian Molko. He met Stefan Olsdal and, recognising each other's strengths, they began playing in underground clubs in Camden Town and Brick Lane. In 1996, while recording their first album and following the departure of their drummer, Molko invited former colleague Steve Hewitt to join them, and the result was perfect chemistry among the three.

The name may mean fake medication, but their music is real and full of energy, like a dose of testosterone. Their first album titled Placebo met with immediate success in Britain and the rest of Europe. Their songs are erotic, lonely and self-destructive. Through an alternative punk sound, they question the status quo and talk about society's indifference to marginalisation, addiction and alienation. Molko's presence expresses the sexuality of the band's songs. Their sound has obvious influences from Smashing Pumpkins, PJ Harvey, David Bowie, SonicYouth, Radiohead and Depeche Mode. Among the hits on this album is Nancy Boy, which represents Molko's personality more than any other.
