Mulatu Astatke at the Fuzz Club on 17th April

Mulatu Astatke at the Fuzz Club on 17th April
After his great success at Synch Festival ‘09, Mulatu Astatke, "the father of ethio-jazz," returns to the Fuzz Club in Athens, Greece for an explosive live show on 17 April. Mulatu Astatke is one of the most important and influential African musicians of the 20th century. He is considered the "father of ethio-jazz," as his music combines jazz and Latin influences with traditional Ethiopian music. His album with the Heliocentrics, Inspiration Information, won a best album of 2009 award at the Trophées des Arts Afro-Caribéens in Paris. His new personal album, Mulatu Steps Ahead, will be out on 29 March and everybody is already talking about the new masterpiece of ethio-jazz music.

During his appearance, Mulatu Atatke will present pieces from his work with the Heliocentrics, as well as songs from his new album. Mulatu Steps Ahead explores new directions in fusion sounds and the mix of Western jazz and traditional Ethiopian music, which Atatke first introduced in the 1960s. The songs on the album were recorded with the Boston Orchestra and contributions by traditional musicians from Ethiopia, as well as members of the Heliocentrics and other top jazz and African musicians based in London.

Don't miss Mulatu Astatke, the father of ethio-jazz, and the Heliocentrics at the Fuzz Club in Athens, Greece live on 17 April.
