Whirling Dervishes at Megaron Concert Hall

Whirling Dervishes at Megaron Concert Hall
Twelve dancers and eight musicians of the Mevlevi Whirling Dervishes, the oldest Dervish regiment, are coming to Athens, Greece for an evening of mysticism on 27 March at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall. The Dervishes, an authentic expression of Islamic mysticism through a centuries-old dance ritual, seek to purify the human soul. Through the dance, they transmit their experience of ecstasy. Don't miss this compelling performance at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall. Removing their black cloaks, they remain dressed in white, as they are reborn and begin twirling with the right hand turned to the sky to receive "the glory of God" and the left toward the earth to transmit the divine glory to the material world.

The Whirling Dervishes twirl around themselves in concentric circles, becoming one with the harmony of nature and the splendour commanded by its creator. In a state of ecstasy, like the mystics of Orpheus and the maenads of Dionysus, the dervishes daze the soul and liberate it from the enslavement of the body.

Don't miss the whirling dervishes in a unique performance on 27 March at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall.
