The Panorama of European Cinema is Athens' biggest film festival, going strong since 1987. Cinephiles can enjoy films from around the globe and pay homage to their favourite cinema legends from Greece and beyond. Films are screened at the Ideal Cinema and Trianon Theatre.

In 2007 the festival opens with a screening of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, a film by Romanian director Cristian Mungiu which won this year's Palme D' Or Prize at Cannes, as well as the first prize of the FIPRESCI jury.

In addition to a section of premières, Panorama features a number of homages and retrospectives and has a special award that recognises well-known Greek artists and cinema legends for their contribution to film. Past winners have included Michael Cacoyannis, Irene Papas, Theo Aggelopoulos, Jules Dassin, Mikis Theodorakis, Nicos Koundouros and Alexis Damianos.

The Panorama of European Cinema is organised by Eleftherotypia Daily in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and a number of other Greek and foreign cultural institutions. The festival website publishes full details of this year's programme as soon as they are available.
