PAO stay top at the Euroleague |
Panathinaikos stayed joint top of its Euroleague group at its halfway point through their hard-fought 60-67 win at Prokom Trefl in Poland on Wednesday. The Greek champions had a good start to the game, holding a 12-point lead at half time (24-36). However they seemed somewhat complacent and tired after their weekend win in the derby against Olympiakos and the Polish soon caught up with them through a partial 8-0 score that took them to within just two points (47-45).
Coach Zeliko Obradovic was relieved to seem his men regroup and snatch the win in the end after Prokom had equalised 52-52. A late rally by Dimitris Diamantidis and Vassilis Spanoulis ensured Panathinaikos remained on top of the group with four wins out of five games.
Diamantidis and Nikola Pekovic led scoring for Panathinaikos with 15 points each, followed by Spanoulis with 12.
On Thursday evening Olympiakos visit Le Mans in France and Panionios play in Italy against Armani Jeans Milano.
