MPs Approved The Aid To Banks |
MPs approved on Thursday night the 28-billion-euro package aid to bank in response to the global financial crisis.Main opposition PASOK party leader Giorgos Papandreou has criticised the plan saying it enables banks to do whatever they like. "The government doesn't really grant liquidity to economy.
On the contrary it gives banks a blank cheque. This money doesn't belong to the government but to Greek people. We demand transparency, social and parliamentarian control", said Pasok Leader, Giorgos Papandreou.
The PASOK leader's statement prompted a quick response by the finance minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis.
"The only thing that is ‘blank' is PASOK's non-existent plan, a paper with non-existent proposals. A blank paper is what the leader of the main opposition party presented affecting every effort made to improve the economy, without any concern for the consequences. That's the reason why your policy doesn't express or share citizen's anxiety as you claim, but yours", stressed Finance Minister, Giorgos Alogoskoufis.
