Behind the brand - how nature met science

Behind the brand - how nature met science
Have you ever wondered what's the real story behind your favorite beauty brands? Like, the trip to Marrakech that inspired your favorite lipstick shade, or the major scientific discovery that spawned your skin cream. Or, of course, how each brand got started in the first place. From small family upstarts to Hollywood's biggest makeup artists, read on to hear the inspiring stories behind your favorite beauty companies.

How Nature Met Science
George and Lena Korres blend their love of science and innovation with nature to create truly effective skincare. Back in 1989, pharmacist George Korres set out on a mission to do what no one in Greece had done before: Develop and market his very own line of homeopathic remedies. So he went out and bought a pharmacy. And not just any pharmacy, but the oldest homeopathic pharmacy in Athens, which, prior to Korres, sold only imported products. Soon after, a chemical engineer named Lena came to help create the new remedies, and in a story worthy of a Greek myth, the two fell in love and were married. With their first-hand knowledge of homeopathic ingredients, George and Lena stocked the lab with loads of natural ingredients and got to work. Their organic approach toward healing was a recipe for success that had customers coming in droves.

From Homeopathic Remedies to Natural Products
Over the next few years, the Korres Pharmacy became the center of homeopathic medicine in Greece. With a prominent clientele from both Athens and abroad, special requests from customers came often and the Korres' happily obliged. They even agreed, upon a customer request, to make skincare products using the same natural ingredients they relied on at the pharmacy. In no time, word of their high quality, herb-based skincare concoctions got out—and scores of requests came pouring in. By 1996, the couple officially launched Korres Natural Products and began selling their skin-friendly products from behind the counter at their Athens pharmacy.

The Natural Approach To Skincare
The goal of Korres was simple: To develop affordable skin, hair, and personal care products using essential oils, high quality herbs, and plant extracts, and to deliver safe and beneficial results without making false promises or using synthetic ingredients. From watercress to wild rose, pomegranate to passion flower, walnut to wild mango, Korres packs their product with the finest active ingredients. And every product in the growing collection looks and smells as luxurious as the photo on the bottle would suggest. But the real proof of Korres' commitment to remaining safe, effective, and natural lies not just with what they put in their products, but with what they leave out: synthetic components like mineral oil, silicone, and propylene glycol.

Korres Today
What started behind the counter in an ancient Greek pharmacy has grown to include over 200 beauty products that are skin compatible and environmentally friendly. From beautiful packaging (who wouldn't want this in their bathroom?) to safe and effective products that smell and feel as amazing as they look, Korres brings the best of nature blended with science to the beauty world.
Examples of products: Yoghurt Cooling Gel, $23.50, Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturizer SPF 6, $32.50,
only at sephora Olive And Rye Night Cream, $39.
