
ECOWEEK's goal is to raise awareness, inform and guide people in making choices and adopting habits which are friendly to the environment; conserve energy and natural resources; respond to the challenges of global warming. ECOWEEK activity reaches every city and town of Greece and soon Cyprus and other neighboring countries. ECOWEEK events are open and free admission for the public. We believe that by changing habits we can change the climate.

AIACE Chapter meeting and International Architecture Conference
ECOWEEK is co-organizing the "Ecology + Environment + Architecture" conference with the American Institute of Architects European Chapter (AIACE) and with the participation and support of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) and the UIA-ARES (International Union of Architects - International Work Program Architecture and Renewable Energy Sources). The conference will take place in Athens at the Zappeion Megaron on 10-13 April 2008. Among the distinguished speakers are architect of 'green skyscrapers' Ken Yeang, sustainable landscape designer Julie Bargmann of DIRT Studio in Charlottesville, VA, and well-known Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis. Among the special events the conference will host the premiere of the European documentary by Jacques Allard "Last Call for Planet Earth" featuring architects such as Thomas Mayne, Massimiliano Fuksas . After the premiere, a discussion will take place in which international architects and the director Jacques Allard will participate. The conference will include presentations of ecological building in Greece, Denmark, and England. Among others the BedZed zero-emissions neighborhood in London by Benjamin Gill of BioRegional.
The conference is under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, and the Municipality of Athens, and it will open with the opening remarks of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Dora Bakoyianni, Deputy Mayor of Athens Yiorgos Dimopoulos, and the President of TEE Yiannis Alavanos. The conference will address the President of the the Environmental Committee of the Greek Parliament Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
