to 28 Sep - The Modern Arab World photo exhibition at Benaki Islamic Art Museum

Within the framework of the anniversary events for the twenty years of operation for Apeiron Photos, the Benaki Museum hosts an exhibition the goal of which is to promote the understanding of the contemporary image of the East and to cultivate the ideal of multiculturalism by presenting the many facets of the Middle East with accuracy and fidelity. The Modern Arab World at the Benaki Islamic Art Museum.

The exhibition is a unique international production that highlights the face of contemporary Arab communities around the world. It all started in January 2006, when the Stanley Foundation commissioned the internationally renowned VII Photo Agency to record and highlight accurately the modern face of the Arab World and contemporary daily life in the Middle East.

The photographers who participated in the project recorded the rise and catalytic effect of ever increasing information media in the Islamic world, the Western influence on the lifestyle of the local communities, as well as everyday life experiences in the Middle East. The motivation behind this exhibition and its purpose are finally and irrevocable to demystify the East and stop its demonisation in the eyes of the West.
