Athens observed 'Earth Hour' on Saturday nightThe now familiar sight of the floodlit Acropolis dominating the Athenian nightscape was briefly sacrificed for the needs of global "Earth Hour" on Saturday, when lights were turned off at 8:30 p.m. for more than an hour.The city of Athens was among those that urged citizens to participate in the "Earth Hour" initiative and also turned off the lights on landmarks and prominent locations around the city for an hour and 30 minutes.Earth Hour is an awareness-raising effort concerning climate change and energy conservation, during which people around the world switch off their lights for more than one hour. more from daily news »
