Celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II

The Greater Athens Chaplaincy is delighted to announce that it will be acting as a focal point in Athens for the celebrations of Her Majesty the Queen's 60th anniversary on the throne. There will be celebratory events throughout the summer to which all are invited, and all details are available on the chaplaincy website:

Sunday June 3: Service of Thanksgiving, followed by Street Party at St Paul's

In the presence of the British Ambassador, H.E. David Landsman, a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the Diamond Jubilee of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will take place at 10.15am on 3rd June at St Paul’s Anglican Church, 27 Filellinon St., Athens. The Ambassador will deliver the address, invitations are extended to the Ambassadors of Commonwealth Countries and anthems from Her Majesty’s coronation will be sung by the Athens Singers. Immediately after the service a specially prepared cake will be cut and the Loyal Toast raised. Following this occasion there will be a Pot Luck Lunch in the grounds of St Paul’s taking the form of a British Celebratory Street Party. If you are wish to share in the street party you are asked to make a contribution to the ‘Pot Luck Lunch’. Jubilee Tea Party at home of Jill Yakas, Kifissia: Date to be confirmed

This year, this popular annual event will have a Diamond Jubilee flavor. It will be held in the lovely garden of Jill Yakas’ home at 16, Spartis, Kifissia from 16.30. Tickets available at the entrance. This was scheduled to take place on Sunday June 17, but this is now to be confirmed because of the national elections. Check the Chaplaincy website for further information on this nearer the time.

Friday June 22: Grand Jubilee Ball at the British Embassy

This promises to be the event of the summer! The evening will consist of full buffet dinner and cocktails, wine and beer; entertainment from a Scottish piper, string quartet and musicians from Liberia; dancing to greatest hits from the 50s until today; silent auction of royal memorabilia; and raffle and tombola with amazing prizes including business-class tickets to UK, hotel stays and cruises. Entrance: 50 euros, with part of the profits going to Greek charities supported by the Chaplaincy. Saturday July 14: Jubilee Tea Party at home of Jane Mandalios, Voula

For those who cannot travel to the northern suburbs, a Jubilee Tea Party will be held in Voula for all those who love traditional English tea time. Entrance will be 5 euros for all the tea, sandwiches and cake you can consume. This will be held from 5.00 pm onwards in Jane Mandalios' apartment atVoula.
